Are You Preparing Your Garden For Spring?

Posted on

Now that the 2017 holidays are a thing of the past, perhaps you are thinking about getting your garden ready for spring or summer. If you look outside, it may seem impossible that those warm, sunny days will ever arrive. Well, they will, and you more than likely will enjoy them a great deal if you have gotten your outdoor spring work done ahead of time. From checking out your landscaping equipment to planning your garden, here are some ideas that might help you.

Repairing Equipment - Have you ever had the experience of starting to mow your lawn, only to find that the lawnmower won't work properly. Or, maybe you tried to use your edger and it malfunctioned from the very beginning. One of the smartest things you might do in getting your garden ready for spring and summer is to make an evaluation of your landscape equipment. Check your gardening hand tools to make sure they are in good working order. Check out the lawn mower, the sprinklers, the edger, your electric tree trimmer, and every other piece of equipment that you normally use. Taking it to a landscape equipment repair service is probably a lot less expensive than buying brand new equipment. If you take care of the repairs now, you'll be all set to go when spring arrives.

Planning Your Design - Besides making an evaluation of your landscaping equipment, make an evaluation of which plants worked well last spring and summer. Write your plan down so you can refer to it later. For example, if you remember that a particular type of rose bush did very well in your yard, you might want to buy more of the same type of rose bush. If you realize that your bougainvilleas would do better in pots than in the ground, write down that you need to buy pots for those plants. And, if you decide that you want to add more interest to your garden, consider buying statuary or a water fountain that might become the focal point of your garden.

Consider making a list of chores that need to be completed before spring arrives. For example, if wrought iron patio furniture needs to be repainted, write that down. If you need new cushions for your patio furniture, write that down, too. Think of browsing through gardening magazines so that you can get ideas of things you want to incorporate into your garden this year.
