Organic Lawn Care Tips to Create a Healthier Yard for Your Children

Posted on

Outdoor play is very important for children. However, if chemicals are used to treat the lawn then the dangers can outweigh the benefits. Fortunately, however, there is an alternative for parents who want to provide a safe backyard for their children to play in—use organic lawn care services instead. Here are a few important things to do to have a safe backyard for your children to play in so you don't have to worry about exposing them to toxic chemicals.

Hire an Organic Lawn Care Program Provider

Organic lawn care uses natural products that are safe for you, your children, your pets, and your soil. Biological organisms, micronutrients, and natural oils are used to stimulate the growth of grass and roots for a healthier lawn. You can also choose products to deal with particular problems you may have in your yard such as weed growth or unwanted insects. Typically, an organic lawn care program provides you with treatments on an ongoing basis to keep your lawn in tip-top shape.

Towards the end of the summer when grass growth slows down, you'll want to continue having the organic lawn care products applied. Doing this will effectively help the roots become stronger before the dormant season of the colder months. That way, your lawn will be healthier after winter and ready for your children to play on.

Mow the Grass Correctly and Effectively

Most organic lawn care programs don't cut grass. They typically only apply products. Therefore, you will still need to either mow the grass yourself or hire a mower to do the job for you. If you do hire a mowing service, you will need to make sure they don't arrive at the same time on the same day so they don't interfere with each other. However, depending on the products that are applied by the organic lawn care company, your lawn can still be mowed on the same day provided that any liquid products have dried if used.

When mowing the grass, the highest setting should be used. Mowing high like this will promote the roots to go deeper, which in turn helps the grass to thrive. When mowing, mulch the grass instead of bagging it. The mulched grass will help the organic lawn care products work more effectively. If the grass is bagged, a portion of the applied lawn care products will get bagged as well during the process. Mulch all leaves as well to provide an additional organic layer, naturally.
