Just Had Artificial Turf Installed? 3 Tips To Keep It Maintained

Posted on

Artificial turf is beneficial as you do not have to mow it, which can take up a lot of time. You do need to make sure you keep it maintained so it will last a long time for you. Keep reading for three maintenance tips so you can protect your investment.

Sweep and Drag

Periodically you should sweep and drag the turf fibers. This will ensure they stand upright as real grass does. Do this once a week if you walk on your artificial turf a lot. If you do not, then monthly should work well for you. The installer can tell you how often this should be done.

To brush the turf there are specialty rakes that you can purchase for this purpose. You can also use a stiff broom that has synthetic fibers. Never use a metal rake as this will damage the turf. When brushing go in the opposite direction of the artificial grass to make it go upright.

Clean the Artificial Turf

When you notice your artificial turf is becoming dirty, you need to clean it. Fortunately, this is easy to do as you can simply spray it down with a garden hose. Start at one end and move your way forward to ensure all the fibers are sprayed. If you get a lot of rain, you may not need to do this. If you go days without rain, however, cleaning the turf is important. This also waters the turf at the same time.

Along with cleaning, keep debris off the lawn, such as leaves, sticks, and more. The easiest way to do this is using a leaf blower as this will remove these things very quickly. If you do not have a leaf blower, ask family or friends to help you pick everything up.

Hire a Maintenance Service

There are artificial turf maintenance services that can maintain your turf for you. You may want to consider they come out twice a year or once a year. This will depend on how much your turf is used and walked on.

This maintenance company will know what problems to look for that you would likely not notice on your own. For example, some areas may be uneven, and more soil will need to be added under the turf. This company can do all the above for you also, such as cleaning and removing debris.

The artificial turf maintenance company can give you much more information on keeping your turf maintained.
